Weekends – A Love and Hate Situation!
All week we wait for them. And when they finally arrive, we sometimes don’t know what to do with them.
A bucket full of clothes waiting for washing, drying, ironing, and stacking. Preparing clothes for the upcoming week. Doing 10K steps. Pretty much that’s how a weekend looks for an average corporate person who doesn’t have close-by people. Jack and Jill went up the hill, nope. Here it is Jill, going down the hill!
It’s Tuesday and you are already waiting for the weekend to arrive, for you are planning to do some fun-loving things on those days, maybe going out to play badminton, going for slow evening walks in the breezy air, having a good meal. All these things would be so meaningful if you had the company of your friends. But apparently, we all are busy in our own ways; it’s just that our wants are not aligning with the people present around us.
It’s finally Friday, yay!!! Or nay?? Let’s see how a typical weekend unfolds. Friday evening, the stay you planned with one of your school friends already stands cancelled due to some urgency. You text your friends, “Anyone up for badminton? It will be fun.” Negotiations begin: 7 PM, 8 PM, 9 PM?
“I will go when he goes.”
“No, he will go after the gym.”
“No, I will be tired after the gym.”
The end.
You still hope, okay, it’s still good after all. It’s Friday night. Let’s watch something good. Hmm… okay, snapping right and left through Netflix and JioHotstar cards, nothing looks that pleasing. Putting on Modern Family, Claire and Phil are now part of your family away from your own family. Sleep is on time!
Saturday it is. The sun is shining as bright as my imagination of my life when I was a child, imagine the brightness. Washed clothes, had breakfast, did a FaceTime call at home, planned some not-happening trips with friends. What now? Lunch time, nap time. The sun is setting, so is my hopefulness towards life as a whole. What am I doing? Is it enough? This is where hate comes into the picture. Thank God I have Cam, Mitchell, and Lily with me; at least I can laugh despite these exacerbated feelings. Let’s keep the motivation on, let’s try something new, doodling, it is this time. Scooch!!
Sunday rhymes very well with Funday, really. Not really. Not for me, for sure, not this weekend. Suddenly I have too many people surrounding me, no, no, I mean thoughts! I will be turning 30 next year. I haven’t travelled enough. I don’t have a partner. I am not exploring secondary income options. I am too dependent on people around me; that’s why maybe I am not able to do things in life. I have known this for quite a long time now, yet there is still no progress. Why not a remote job so that I can explore places? Will I? Okay, leave it.
Let’s go to Dan Brown and travel France through him, the Louvre Museum, Arc de Triomphe, and Saint-Sulpice. Amazing sights! It’s already sunset time. The people went away… oops! The thoughts, I mean.
Ughh, again it’s Monday. I am having Monday blues. Can we have the weekend soon?
My feeling for the weekend is more like a tug of war between loving it at first and hating it the more you have it. Does it resonate with your weekend story? Please share your thoughts!
True!! Story of people trying to settle and make a life away from home!
ReplyDeletePrecisely reflects corporate employee's life.
ReplyDeletePS: Felt like it is written by a seasoned writer with deep experience
This was beautifully written and very honest. The transition from Friday excitement to Sunday reflections was portrayed so well. I’m sure many people will see a bit of their own weekend in this story.✨️😇
ReplyDeleteSo amazing and meaning full. You should write often
ReplyDeleteThis is so relatable! Weekends start with so much hope, only to end with a mix of chores, missed plans, and overthinking. Your write-up perfectly captures that love-hate vibe.
ReplyDeleteVery well written and so true. Weekends often slip away with unexecuted plans and binge-watching your comfort show.🌼
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed reading this! The way you captured the love-hate relationship with weekends felt very real and relatable. I liked how the story moves through the days and shows that mix of excitement, plans that never quite happen, and the quiet moments in between. The reflections toward the end also add a thoughtful touch and make the piece feel deeper than just a weekend routine. Nicely written and engaging!🤌🏻✨

ReplyDeleteGreat post! Weekends really give us the time to relax and recharge after a busy week.
ReplyDeleteVery true. The struggle outlined here resonates with almost everyone
ReplyDeleteIts a relatable reminder that weekends aren’t always about freedom sometimes they just amplify the silence we try to ignore all week.......
ReplyDeleteYou captured my thoughts that I have almost everyday these days in your writing...A hindi quote that perfectly summarizes this " 2 Roti Khane k liye, 2 roti kamane ghar se itna door ana pada" , away from home, separated from friends, because everyone is away from eachother & stuck in this survival mode...
ReplyDeleteSo true! I’m always stuck choosing between doing something fun or clearing all my pending chores before Monday hits again !!
